Hey I have a guy working on my instrument panel lights... the ones that backlight the flight instruments/engine guages/etc. He has tried replacing the transistor that controls it and the new one blew... also tried replacing the rheostat and blew another transistor.

He's pretty sure there must be a short in the system somewhere but he hasn't found it. Does anyone know of a trouble spot/common point of failure on these?

It's a 78 Archer II if that helps.

Well I guess he found it. Someone had run a wire up to backlight the compass and it was pinched behind the GPS and shorted out.
