Just picked up a recent copy of the plane & pilot mag at a local shop, probably been 8 months since I read my last one.

Very thin... is this a recent change ?

I noticed that about all the aviation mags. Thin and too many advertisements.

Just as with print newspapers the days of print magazines would seem to be numbered.

It's probably straight economics. The cost of producing and distributing the print version of any magazine is multiples of a website subscription distribution. If they can get the costs down maybe more people would read it more often, and the obvious way to get costs down is to try to move traffic to the electronic version.

The glossy mags. Can't make it in the digital age. A few good articles, but nothing exceptional.

Yeah, that has been my experience too, and also with other magazines for specialized activities. It's hard to want to buy one when half of what you're paying for is advertising.
