Does an Ovation do okay on grass, gravel, sand?
If there are no obstacles, what is realistically needed for distances to get in and out, at say 2,000' density altitude, it would always be below gross weight at least a little when operating off those surfaces.

Assuming 50’ obstacle, 1600’ t/o and 2500’ landing at MGW, grass no problem if good condition but prop clearance is something like a foot, so a gopher hole could mean a prop strike. Gravel and sand same.
For 2000’ you’d have to be well under max weight and have excellent speed control on landing.

What kinda sand?
 
I would not take a mooney onto any sand I have ever flown off of. Gravel you’re going to wreck the prop, even with good technique.

What you need is a 207 on 29s.
 
It can / has been done. But it’s far from the best plane for that mission. Short gear with no real suspension…..

I wouldn't want to use a Mooney for that application. I'd do manicured grass, but not any gravel or sand that I've ever landed on.
