I'm planning on actually going this year. Flying in the 172.

I'm a plane nut, but I'll probably want to head out after a few days. What else is in the area is worth seeing? Any cool grass strips within a few hundred miles? Any good places to camp?

Thanks

The closest grass strip is New Holstein 8D1 directly across the lake from OSH. The cub guys have their own mini fly in going on over there during the show usually. I think they are camping over there.

Cap City (02C) has a grass strip and cheap fuel (and autogas). Great stop on your way in coming from Chicagoland.

You could head up to Door County and fly into Ephraim-Gibraltar Airport (3D2). There is a state park a few miles away with camping, or just bike around the town for a few hours.

American Champion Aircraft Corp down in Rochester at 96C. Not too far away, I believe they still give tours.

I always thought Madison was a pretty little town. That said, I can't imagine wanting to leave the airshow grounds. There really is quite a bit to see.

I'm not big on crowds. But thanks.
