So I've taken my son and father to Oshkosh several times in the first 10 years of my sons life. It has been a incredible 3-4 days each time we go but the time has come for change.

The "He man woman haters club" has relaxed its membership requirements and the daughter and wife are going along this year.

At first the son and I were going to fly but now were dragging our camper 21 hours east of our home for a few days. I intended on taking the 10 days, stopping and seeing few things like the badlands and field of dreams site and spending 3-4 days at good ole camp scholler. Now it seems I may stop briefly see those other fun places and spend entire week at camp scholler leaving the day after the "Planes" movie debuts.

What I'm curious about is what other activities would anyone recommend around the area for the spouse and little girl when they get tired of the planes (god forbid)? I have never wanted to do anything outside of Airventure but I fear I may have to this year.

Thanks

There is a craft tent where they can do make crafty things. I will of course be teaching origami at my forum (was supposed to be author's corner but the forum actually works just a hair better for me). There is an outlet mall not far from the show available by bus (at least there was last year). There is of course Kidventure as well.

Thanks, I have spent many hours at these wonderful sites on the field. I was curious about surrounding areas? If anyone knows about say a water park for day. How is fishing local to Oshkosh? Things we could say travel maybe 30 - 45 minutes and see and do as a family.

I have taken my son on the bell 47 ride each year for last 3 years and will have wife and my little girl do it this year. I enjoy the kidsventure and that whole area over there for sure. Especially the nostalgic old hangars.

We will stop at your tent as well, kids enjoy that paper stuff. The son will build his rocket and I'm sure the girl will as well.

Thanks for help!

Reasonably good shopping mall in Appleton, museums and such (including the Harry Houdini museum). Go a bit further to Green Bay and wander. Close to OSH, take the bus over to the outlet stores on the west side of 41. Or take the bus to UWOSH campus and spend time at the athletic center & swimming pool. Take the bus to the seaplane base and have a quiet & leisurely lunch.

We always go to the fish fry at the sea base. So nice there. The wife has seen pics from that area and has requested it. Just makes ya wish for a float plane and big farm.
Sat next to guy last year who crashed someones airplane trying to fly over pass I think in Montana. Got to point where he couldnt turn around and planted in higher terrain. Thank goodness he and the owner were fine. Another POA memeber helped get the wreckage off the mountain. Big fella too!

I have heard that is really nice place. How far is that?

2 hour drive but plenty for the family to do there. It was always one of my favorite vacation destinations growing up in Minnesota.

I can't believe you're thinking of "other things" while at OSH, but...here are some suggestions.

Wisconsin Dells (Branson, MO, with better scenery and no country music). LOTS of things for kids. (Water parks, go-karts, roller coasters, etc.)

Door County. That's the "thumb" sticking out into Lake Michigan. You could spend a week just exploring that peninsula. Lots of great shops, restaurants, etc. Mary and her mom used to go pick cherries in Door County while we were at OSH each year.

Greenfield. (Near Milwaukee) Go take a tour of the Sprecher Brewery. They craft the best amber beer in WI.

Lake Michigan. Go out on a charter fishing trip. Catch salmon and trout all day long!

Green Bay. Lambeau Field/Packer hall of fame. That's sacred ground for us Wisconsin natives.

There's also a big train museum in Green Bay. Way cool, if you're into that.

There. That should keep you out of trouble for a while! :D

score BIG = Wisconsin Dells

Trust me Jay it goes against all I believe in. I think they will be blown away and we will probably just stay at airshow but I need to be prepared!

The train idea sounds good as does the brewery:yes:

I may just take them to the dells on way.

As for the fancy head attire, Joshua (son) and I always stop at store south of Fond u Lac and buy fresh cheese curds. He has always wanted one and this may just be the year!!

Yes It was you, quite the story it was. Shame it was kinda cool aircraft if I remember right! Yes the hired pilot with "Mtn flying experience" wasn't a small guy and you said owner wasn't a light weight either.

Hopefully they will fare better this year!

Just went to Kalihari indoor water park a few weeks ago. A bit expensive, but enough water park to keep the family busy the whole time. A lot of great other activities too. Local airport isn't far from the resort. Casino in Dells too: not my thing, but some folks like that. Several good places to eat if you have wheels.

Best,

Dave

Im going to check into that. That would be good place to take break and spend nice night in room before spending rest of week in the little camper.
Looks like Wolf Lodges but better, my kids would be bat**** crazy for that!

We camped in Door county for a week after leaving OSH. Can't imagine a nicer place to spend time in the summer.
