"A corkscrew?"

Do you think it was the "spiral of death" - which a plane will enter if nobody's flying?

With no evidence whatsoever... I wonder if they were flying high enough to require oxygen and it failed.

Why are these the last two paragraphs of the story? I fail to see the relevance:

Earlier Saturday, Jason Baldwin finished 19th among four-wheel vehicles out of 342 starters in the Baja 1000, blowing past the finish line in his Ford F-150 at around 2 a.m. after 18 hours behind the wheel, said Dominic Clark, media relations director for SCORE Desert Racing. Josh Baldwin finished ahead of his brother, coming in 11th overall.

In 2004, Jason won the season point championship in the trophy truck division, Clark said.

Yeah, I heard that same ending on the radio... Cessna 210 ---> Racing? Huh?

I can't see the story now for some reason ( maybe they only show the current day's news for free ) , but as far as I understood it, the owner of the plane was confirmed to not have been in the plane.

His two sons raced in the Baja 1000 desert race ( offroad vehicle race in mexico ) and although they could not confirm because no bodies were found, it is very possibly that it was his sons that were on their way back from the race yesterday.

(edit, this link works http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/homepage/abox/article_841508.php )

this explains it better. i hope he wasn't the pilot after driving an 18 hour race.

It looks like they are considering sleep deprivation as a causitive factor. Whether it is or is not is not relevant at this point. Any investigation would include the consideration of every little thing (elt) as a start point for deducing what really happened.

I can see it, after completion of a months long investigation the final report reveals they don't know what caused this accident. Some smarty pants reporters ask if it's possible the pilot just fell asleep. His speculation is met with blank faces as the investigators admit they hadn't considered that and a new POA thread is born....

I happened to see him in that race on TV.
It's because of all the flyin' he did there, too.
