Are there any pilots based in Torrance, CA (KTOA) that can weigh in on their experience keeping a small plane there? I'm currently at Fullerton KFUL which is friendly, relatively quiet, inexpensive, and has great weather. But there are no hangars so it's a tie-down outside with a carbon fiber plane (painful). Torrance has a nice hangar available, but the net cost jumps from $150/mos to $700/mos with all the fees. Torrance also has more cloudy weather, the local residents seem to want to close the airport, there is a $6 landing fee, and the airspace is insanely busy. Lot's of negatives, but the positive is the indoor hangar. I'm on the fence deciding and the missing piece is how people at KTOA feel about their airport. KFUL has a good positive vibe. Thanks for any input.

Watching with interest...

Where do you live in relation to each airport? Would Compton be an option?

It's 45 minutes north to KFUL and 60-90 minutes west to KTOA. Compton looks like about 45 minutes. I should check it out.

I'm having trouble triangulating you from those numbers but is AJO or.. wha, OKB? an option? I'd hate to need to drive that far to get to my plane, sorta defeats the purpose?

Or get partners and house the thing at SNA if it's something you can't just rent :)

Depends exactly where you live, but Cable or Corona may be better options than Torrance. Not sure what hangar availability is at Chino. Traffic from OC to Torrance is too unpredictable for me.

I'm Costa Mesa, so very close to KSNA. But there is nothing available there since most of the GA tiedowns were removed and replaced by a couple large business jet hangars. The regular GA hangars have a 50 year waitlist. So most of the prior tenants moved their planes to Fullerton etc. As far as KAJO, that is not too far, but I lived through the flooding there last time with 10 feet of water covering the airport and just can't risk putting the plane there (there are hangars available though).

Yeah I did two floods at AJO, those were interesting times. They tripled the capacity of Prado to release water (and not flood the rich downstream) about 5-10 years ago? so I believe flood risk is greatly reduced now. Last time I was through there though it was a depressing ghost town.

Our hangars were always on the rwy 25 end so we didn't get hit nearly as hard as the 7 end.
