You know you're having a bad day when your aircraft is removed from the runway like this...

And it started like this...

All I know is Runway 10/28, and the pilot suffered minor injuries.

Looks like a Vans RV8A

Hopefully not the first flight after building it.

A few replacement bits of sheet metal, about a million new rivets and the rest will buff out.

They are not light enough to just tail them back over by hand?

Some are, but they probably wanted 10/28 cleared expediently. That photo is the Area Hotel Ramp near 10/28 they're backing up toward. Get the mess off the runway and get the airport opened back up.

There's also a wheeled dolly there toward the left front of the photo, but I don't know if they used it or not.

Oh. The way the firefighter was looking in, on his hands and knees, I thought someone was in there still and they were trying to figure a way to expedite exit.

Any idea what happened? Messed up a crosswind landing?

The RV A models have had issues with the nose gear folding up and even springing planes over on their back. From the way the nose gear is folded up I'd say that's a good start, maybe PIO.

A jet landed gear up here at KSRQ and they tried to remove it with a lift like that, bent both wings up causing more damage than the gear up landing...<sigh>

I was gonna say looks like an RV w/o a stiffer nose gear leg.
One of the only 'flaws' in the rv line. Easiest solution to fix is build a tail wheel plane...

I liked the headline from one of the local news stations...

"Small plane crashes into runway"
