Ooopsie!

I"m surprised the pilot and passengers (including the dog) were ok... that picture does not look like something you could walk away from.

They refused medical service and drove away. I have a friend that flies a Cherokee in Kalispell and the article had me excited when I saw the picture, then I read that nobody was hurt and it wasn't him.

This could have turned out bad..

Its not over yet. It can still turn out bad! Even though no one was hurt, this will supply those old farts with ammo who want to close the city airport.

I'd like to take that tower down!! I never fly into KGPI, always the city. Wasn't aware that there were old farts who want to shut it down.

If that house wasn't cardboard construction and were made out of brick, the front seaters would have had an engine implanted in bad places.

Glad they walked away, nonetheless.

Luckily they didn't have any fuel, could you imagine the fire if they hadn't run out! (this is meant as general sarcasm rooted in probabilities, I don't know they ran out)

Years ago a Comanche was damaged in a forced landing on a city street after it ran out of fuel near KBUR. On the TV news that night a city fire spokesman looked straight into the camera and said with a straight face, "Those passengers were very lucky there was no fuel aboard ... "

OUCH!

...or just shut the dam thing down! It has almost NO value. Heck, it would be worth shutting down just to put a road in that connects the road next to Rosauers to Begg Park Drive or Teal. As someone else mentioned, we don't need a giant playground for those amatuer(ish) pilots.
And "mommy dearest," I remember hearing about a company that wanted to build a campus where the airport currently is, with a projection of up to several hundred new jobs. Why should we continue to fund something that doesn't benefit the community very much as a whole? Besides, the likelihood that they can get everything done they need to in order to "upgrade" is very low.
"Upgrading" to allow jets, etc. would mean even noisier skies and more risks. Oh, I forgot. The airport poses no threat to anyone. Do you forget the plan that crashed within a few hundred feet of Flathead High School? That's bound to happen again. It's not worth the risk if we can avoid it. The negatives far outweigh the positives. How many planes have crashed at GPI?
That airport is a HUGE waste of space and money. And now they want federal funding? Who's stuck with the bill when/if federal funding dries up??? And who has TRUE CONTROL over the airport if the feds fund it? The feds. Do we really want more fed. intervention?

I fly in and out of S27 a few times a year for the hell of it. Would not come to Kalispell if I had to deal with KGPI. I've been to GPI once. Let me know if there's anything I can do. It's a neat airport and the town has grown up around it, was within walking distance of my buddy's house until he moved to Tennessee. Would be a shame to see it go.

It's always fun when people build a house right next to an airport, or directly under the approach, then whine and ***** about the noise.

I've been looking into it, it seems there's a whiny bitchy bunch up there all organized called the "Quite Skies Committee" or some other nonsense that have built up to the fence and are complaining about that noise from the pilot training operations. They're also complaining about some sort of "FAA Route" that's not being followed or some nonsense. I don't see any noise abatement procedures published. We have a lawsuit here where some dim bulb developer bought the land next to an 80 year old public golf course then planted houses within a 100' of the greens and now the property owners are suing the city because they have golf balls in their yard... Go figure.

I used to live under the approach end of KMEM, I thought it was great. I never did get used to living next to the railroad tracks though, I just moved.
