A while back, I started a thread about shiny aircraft http://www.pilotsofamerica.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50650
Last night, I caught an episode of the new TV show "Fast 'n Loud", which focuses on the cars built by Gas Monkey Garage in Dallas. In that episode they did something with a Ford Fairmont that made the finish looked like the entire exterior was chromed. (See this Facebook page for photos)
Details about the project revealed during the broadcast lend me to believe this was a vinyl wrap.
Instead of painting an aircraft, would a wrap job of sufficient quality be permitted?
