This is a cool picture:
It's Bruce McCandless in the first untethered space walk in 1984.

[OtisAir]

Cool, Thanks! That's my new background now

[rottydaddy]

That must have been awesome, if a tad nerve-wracking.

"This will look great in my logbook..."

[vontresc]

Now would you log that as powered lift?????

[steingar]

Just traded a large space ship for a smaller one.

[tonycondon]

i think i would be feeling pretty lonely if I was him.

[EdFred]

That used to be my desktop background.

[nddons]

Now if any of you photoshop wizzards could superimpose a few large balloons above the astronaut, that picture would be an inspiration for every redneck lawnchair lighter-than-air pilot wannabe!

[Capt. Geoffrey Thorpe]

Another NASA fake / coverup, eh? There are no stars in the background and the so called "astronaut" would be kilt dead from the radiation.

If he gets much further away, orbital mechanics will come into play.

High is slow,
Low is fast,
Start a whifferdill and you'll run out of gas.

[wbarnhill]

I gotta wonder how many times the thought crossed his mind "What if I can't get back?"

Very cool though.
