Only in the Best Buy Parking Lot

"... I am so smart! S-M-R-T!..."

This last Sunday's flyer, Best Buy was indicating a special sale on idiocy. It seems they have a surplus stock.

It works better that way! Besides, even if it were spelled correctly, who pays attention to STOP signs or YIELD signs or RED LIGHTS any more.

Last night our elder son called asking for a birthday present; seems Lowes (or somebody) misprinted an ad flier, and a super-duper-pluperfecto mega-mixer for normally some $400.00 was on sale for something like $100.00, and Lowes is honoring the price.

So, we acquiesced. David is getting his mixer and some poor printer is not getting any more jobs from Lowes!

Some times such misspellings result from the application of intelligence but with a lack of knowledge. On navy ships, pipes are labeled on the outside with their purpose. On the USS Enterprise (nuclear powered), there was a safety valve discharge line that was supposed to be labeled "Relief to Atmos." (abbreviation for atmosphere). A crew member responsible for maintaining the one of the rooms that it went through knew that just had to be a typo and corrected it to "Relief to Atoms". Of course, it was one of the heads (restrooms) that was open to the public on overseas port visits.
