Just saw this on the news...

Small plane crashes near Blair


Edit: It's now known that the pilot did not survive. Plane was an Ercoupe 415-C.

92 years old...wow. I should be so lucky to be driving at that age. RIP.

I spoke to a gentleman in his late 80's/early 90's last summer about his beautiful Ercoupe flying out of KCJR Culpepper Virginia. Sprite old fella. God, I love those planes.
 
Looking at one of the pics, if he would have just made it a little further, there was a field just a few hundred feet away. :(
 
BTA was just a few miles, and yes - there are other places to put it down not far away, if you have control of the aircraft. At 92 -- I wouldn't make any bets on that. We'll have to wait for the NTSB and coroner reports to know anything at all.
