Some people taste different wines, some people taste different Scotches. I'm definitely more in the latter group.
We've been invited to some very nice wine tastings by our airplane co-owner and his wife, who's studied some on how to be a sommelier, and without a doubt, every darn time I end up liking the cheap wine when the votes are all tally'd at the end of the evening.
It's almost to the point now where it's going to become a joke. Great wine is just lost on me, I guess.
Hand me a speyside and a highlands, and I can tell the difference, along with enjoying different finishes from various cask styles (I had a nice sherry casked single-malt last year, but can't remember which one it was... fascinating difference in flavor...) and smoke vs. non-smoke, etc.
Tastebuds are cool, since everyone's are different.
This place used to be only five blocks from work, many years ago... it was dangerous to both body and wallet...
