- - - some of you have seen my references to being "up here on the hill in the trees" where it's peaceful; no passing trailer trucks, trains, or traffic other than from the five or six other residences and/or the UPS/FedEx or oil delivery vehicles. The Link pretty much defines defines it. The photo had to have been taken after August of 2008 because that's about the time I had the driveway paved. I'm amazed by the clarity of the lighthouse on my garage which is across the pavement from the house.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=43.836921,-69.753139&num=1&t=h&sll=43.838265,

0.001426,0.00327&z=19

The Link seems to only work right by doing a Copy of everything from http: right to the end of =19 and then a paste into the Address line outside of PoA. Then it seems to come up in the enlarged mode. The property is referenced by "A" and the green arrow. (Confusing!)
Aha! By just clicking the underscore the bigger area comes up; and when playing with the scale the coastline at Robinhood Marina shows up and south, Five Islands(general area of Sheepscot Bay).

test edit of your url - there ya go, HR ... I just moved the end url to the real end ... clickable now

Thanks; I figured there's a way to correct my initial problem with it. When you zoom out to a wider angle you can see that there's a "lotta wotta" in the vicinity. I moor my 20' I/O boat at Five Islands. It takes about 35 minutes to head south around Southport Island to get to Boothbay Harbor.
#1 = Five Islands harbor; #2 = Hendricks Head Light Station(at southern tip of Southport Is. - right across the the bay from Five Islands); #3 = Hendricks Head, but from the boat; #4 = Boothbay Harbor.

#1 and #2: Boothbay Harbor, while I was meandering around the moorings;
#3 = a summer resident's home, just slightly north of my mooring; and it's a steep walk between the house and the float;
#4 = Robinhood Marine Center, 2.5 miles(by road) from my house. Five Islands is 5.5 miles in the other direction.

Beautiful pictures... next time I'm flying over, I'll drop some flour or something and that'll be your cue to look up and wave. :lol:

Seriously, thanks for posting those, beautiful country. :yesnod:

Bear in mind that those pictures were taken during the summer. Maine is beautiful then and in the early Fall as well. This time of year it's more snowy. Although from what I gather, it's not been as snowy as in years past. The winters of '76 and '77 were particularly harsh as I recall.

I remember that winter. In the winter 76-77, completed ATC school in OKC and headed back home to New England. Got stuck in STL an extra day with the blizzard in Illinois and Ohio. Went south on snow covered highways through Tenn, and Ky into Viginia and headed for the coast.

Got back to NH and Boston ARTCC just in time for the big Boston Blizzard of '77.

It's 65-70F today, bright sun, as I watch another storm headed into New England. But I do miss the summer green and the coast.

As someone pointed out recently in another thread, we're particularly light on beachfront property here in Colorado.

Love the photos. I like visiting the ocean when I can.

It looks like a wonderful place to live.

John

- - - have to say I like it. Incidentally, if any of you are familiar with Cape Dory Yachts, they're made at Robinhood Marine Center. But sometimes the conditions at Five Islands aren't so good.

But on a good day there's Reid State Park, about 5 miles from my house. In this case it was Labor Day, so the beach was empty.

Your house just reinforces my mantra that if you can't take a whiz off your front porch at high noon on Sunday without the neighbors having a fit, then you are living too close...

is the old derilict schooner still lying near the bridge in Wiscasset?

The Hesper and Luther Little, schooners, have been gone for many years, but thanks for remembering. If I can find it I'll post an image I took, many years ago when one of them still had masts. Found it; the schooners picture is a 30" x 40" print.
