I'm in the long slow process of inputting flights into an electronic logbook. I'm having a hard time finding some of the airport identifiers that have changed. Is there a source to look for old ones? Anybody got a guess on these from 1998?

OYI - I have a note I was visiting Carol T. SC?
N17 - note says Tri-cities NY, airnav says NM...
MSA - somewhere between ARG and FSW (definitely not Ontario)

Even if you could find the old identifiers - would the computer program accept them?

Thats the dirty part about the computer logbooks- they may not accept identifiers that no longer exist if they have a database instead of just an entry field . . . .

It accepts them, it just doesn't show any info. (Zulu Log) I know I have a couple I used to go to that are now housing developments... Like Frisco TX.

I had the same issue and I just googled the old identifier and the airport name (these were from back in the 80's during initial training, so I knew where they were. If you don't know, you may have to scroll through that list. I had a couple of airports that we flew to do work on soft-field landings that I have NO IDEA of where they were. That made finding IDs somewhat difficult.

Try googling the identifier with the word 'airport'.

OYI comes up with Orangeburg NDB, does Orangeburg airport sound right?
N17 - Vaughn Municipal Airport?
MSA - Muskrat Dam airport.

Edit:

OYI is the identifier of an NDB near Orangeburg, SC. It's 3.3 miles from KOGB.

Some years ago they started changing identifiers so NDBs/VORs would not have the same ID as the navaid. Maybe the airport ID changed.

FTFY.

The IDs are changing only for navaids which are not colocated with the airport, so as to avoid confusion as to where you are. Example: Lampasas VOR (LZZ) was not on field at Lampasas (KLZZ), and the VOR was renamed Gooch Springs (identifier: AGJ).
