How much is too much per hour?
10hrs / quart?
20?
30?
100?

What's considered normal for an engine with 500ish hours? Thanks

Desirable and acceptable are usually different values. For myself I've accelerated an overhaul decision when consumption exceeded a quart in 4 hours. But that engine was generally tired at the time. My current engine uses about a quart in 25 hours. I like that much better.

I believe 10hrs/qt is considered pretty normal. That is about what my arrow does at 400SMOH and its compressions were perfect last annual.

Well, I have an O-320-E2D with 2600 hours since overhaul that goes through about half a quart every 50 hours.

That said, one could go through a lot more and still be "ok". Just depends where its going and why.

One in 25 hours works for me,starting at one qt. below full.

That's pretty much what I get in my Beech Sport. Normal cruse is 2400-2450rpm. I also use 7 quarts for and oil change. I try to fly at least 1 hour per week.

SI 1427B:
maximum allowable oil consumption limits for all Textron Lycoming
aircraft engines
can be determined by using the following formula:
.006 x BHP x 4 / 7.4 = Qt./Hr.

Of course less is better

My O320 A1Bburns about 1 quart every 8 to 12 hours. Longer flights result in less oil burn per hour. Mine is still clean at 20 hours.
