Ok, I am having a problem with my M35X 349S. The Issue is with the DVD player region resetability. I have DVDs from regions 1,3&4. The problem is the DVD player only accepts 4 resets which has now left 3/4 of my DVD library unviewable, this really sucks. The reason I bought a laptop was because of my mobile and space limited life, and that I could have all my entertainment/ information center in one compact unit.

How do I overide or work around this 4 reset limitation. Every DVD player always takes me to a properties window for MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ-820 and the Regions is grey and it tells me I have no resets left. The worst part of this is that I'm locked out of my South Park DVDs:hairraise: :hairraise: :hairraise: .

Please remember in your responses that I'm a dumb operator and don't speak computer well.

Which software package are you using to play the dvd?

(WinDVD, PowerDVD, etc ?? )

DeCss. Here's some links:

http://www.dvdidle.com/?google

I've never had a need to try this, but DeCss should get you past your problem.

I use Win DVD normally, but I've tried a couple others and the same issue pops up, it seems to be with the DVD drive software from (I have to break this in half to keep it from the auto censor) MAS HITA.

Cool, that worked, thanks although I couldn't find the free hack, I did find something for $40 that gives you a 30 day free trial.

It's actually in the DVD "Firmware". You can update the firmware (usually 5 times max.) for a new region but that's it. You can use AnyDVD, DVDShrink, and Nero to make a "region free" backup of your personally owned DVD's.:D

Yeah, that's what I've found, that I have to spend hours making copies of movies that half the time aren't worth watching. I'm still trying to find something that will just disable the crap so I can just simply watch my DVDs, or those I borrow. Something has to be out there.

The 5 times change in the firmware is set by the same wonderful folks that make it so you get the "no can do' Circle with a line when you try to fast forward throught the commercials on the DVD YOU PAID FOR.

The only way around the lock out it is to replace the DVD drive. You might search eBay for a replacement. You could make one drive for US movies the other the way you have it.

We have to stay tuned to see what they do with HD DVD.

Well, the disc drive in my laptop isn't that easy to change out, although I guess I could get 2 more externals... What a PITA. There has to be some way to knock that out of the drives firmware.

I had a site once that sold region-free DVD players.

Lost the site now, might do a search of the net.
