When we shop for airplanes (dreamers we be...), we sometimes see some remarkable, and sometimes, strange, assemblages of avionics.

There are the always-dreaded Terra radios, orphaned and (apparently) not terribly reliable.

But I have seen, only twice, these radios, the "Bendix 2000" series, which look to me like they must have been an attempt to create a unified avionics standard by Bendix, before they decided instead to buy King.

Am I right / wrong / confused?

A quick web search reveals nearly nothing about 'em.

Hey, some of those Terra's arent' so bad. I have one of the giant hand helds that is still legal and used as a back-up crew radio.

Wait, that's the same plane!!

Crazy looking panel -- looks like something Hollywood might have put together.

I spend far too much time perusing A/C ads, and I've never seen anything like that. Maybe there's a reason??!

I flew a 206 that had those radios, nothing particularly wrong with them, but at this point, I wouldn't value them into the aircraft price. Next time something goes wrong with them, you'll be best off to replace them. They're big and heavy anyway.
