WHAT I HAVE SEEN SINCE KATRINA:

The poor and the wealthy hurt by the storm.

Black, white, Hispanic, Oriental and Indian all hurt by the storm.

Christian people giving, giving, giving.

Churches going all out to minister in Jesus' name.

Neighbors going door to door helping one another.

Thugs and hoodlums going door to door looking for someone vulnerable.

Ice and water being fought over as police tried to keep the peace.

People coming up from New Orleans taking over empty houses because shelters are full.

Out of town volunteers coming with food and staying for now a week still serving it.

The Churches all over this part of the country doing what Christians do in a crisis.

The Red Cross doing a great job in the shelters.

The Salvation Army doing a great job in the community.

Four hundred crewman from everywhere bring back the power to our homes, churches and businesses.

Lines at service stations a block to a mile long.

National Guardsman patrolling the streets of Mc Comb along with Kentucky policemen protecting us from the hoodlums and thugs of McComb, Pike County and New Orleans (the most dangerous city in the world before Katrina.)

Drug dealers "working" outside shelters.

Doctors, nurses and other hospital personnel working tirelessly, even sleeping in the hospital to do the job God called them to do.

WHAT I HAVE NOT SEEN;

The ACLU setting up a feeding line.

People for the American Way helping in the shelters.

The NAACP doing any work whatsoever.

The American Atheist organization serving meals in the shelters.

Jesse Jackson directing traffic at the gas stations.

I could go on but you get my message. Its the Christian people with love and compassion who do the work.

The gripers in Congress should come on down and get in line to pass the water and the ice. Are you listening Hillary, Chuck, Teddy and all the sorry loafers we call Senators and Congressmen? They don't have a clue as to what this life is all about here on the Gulf Coast.

is the red cross a christian organization? are all the people who donated money or help out with the relief effort christian? do all "christians" help out? are all the firefighters who travel from the ends of the country to help out all christian? were you and all your family over there helping out?

please... .. ya don't gotta be christian to have love and compassion and help out.

we see what we know and what we want to see and your comment and these observations definately show that.

I find this extremely offensive. Just because the organizations mentioned don't have organized efforts going on, doesn't mean that people of other faiths or no faith aren't helping.

to be honest, I could close my eyes and say no one is doing anything. but what the hell do I know. I could close my eyes and say everyone is doing everything. I am sure there are many stories we are not hearing... just as I am sure all sorts of folks are helping out here, no matter who they are or what religion.

What I have also not seen..

By excutive order of the president, all congressmen, and thier staff will report to work in the assigned area to help as required by the local authority.

John, the post is proof that we all have our biases. and read into a message what we want to believe.

I believe that the top portion of the first trol was pretty true. but remember we see what the media wants us to see.

I have no data to comment on this issue.

I do find it hard to John's message as being upset with that smiling avatar. You just look too happy to be mad. Sorry John. :)

I think the real issue, and, the one on everyone's mind is:

where the hell is Brittany Spears when you need her? Is she standing in line for these people? Is she giving her many millions to help them? I know the care and feeding of Kevin must take a lot of money, but surely she can do her part.

To be fair, she was available as a floatation devise...

First off, I did not write this, but since I did pass it along, I will take responsibility for its content here on POA.

I apologize to those who were offended by the implication that it is only Christians who are showing compassion and providing care and support to those who were impacted by Katrina and Rita. As pointed out above, you don't have to be Christian to exhibit care and compassion. I believe it is quite the opposite - if one claims to be a Christian and does not have compassion, that is a sin.

I do not know for a fact that the only support efforts going on are Christian, nor do I know for a fact that there are no non-Christian support efforts going on. In fact, I do not know for a fact any facts, and that's a fact!!! The writer of the posting does claim:
WHAT I HAVE NOT SEEN;

The ACLU setting up a feeding line.

People for the American Way helping in the shelters.

The NAACP doing any work whatsoever.

The American Atheist organization serving meals in the shelters.

Jesse Jackson directing traffic at the gas stations.
He says he hasn't seen these things so who am I to debunk him?

I strongly agree with the writer's closing statement, however.
The gripers in Congress should come on down and get in line to pass the water and the ice. Are you listening Hillary, Chuck, Teddy and all the sorry loafers we call Senators and Congressmen? They don't have a clue as to what this life is all about here on the Gulf Coast.
in fact, more strongly agree if he were to strike last 5 words...

So, again - to those I offended, I apologize.

Now, I heard Brittany gave birth. They're still trying to figure out who the mother is... :D

Greg,

I'd strongly agree if the writer had left off the names in the closing statement. The detachment from reality is not limited to the political party that those individuals represent. Detachment from reality is across-the-board in terms of political parties.

The message that 'all' should help show compassion and support those displaced is a good one. It's too bad that the message was lost in a blatently political treatise.

I think I read she opted for a C section because she couldn't stand the idea of pain. I don't know, but, aren't labor pains over, when they are over, and C-section pains (staples, etc etc etc) go on for a long time, including maybe infections and all that?

try to avoid being cut into if you can avoid it. that's my motto.

Dunno. No kids. And the wrong gender to experience any of the above. B)

Mine too. I also avoid medications unless absolutely necessary.

I read an article about the increase in elective C-sections. It said that L&D nurses in England refer to this as "too posh to push."

I didn't see the GOP setting up a food line. Nor the NRA, Pro-Life organizations.

This is very offensive to me, a liberal who is also a Christian.

arright already! I've apologized!!! Can I have a small measure of grace and mercy with a little forgiveness on the side?

yeah thanks for understanding greg.

the company i work for matched employee donations of $122k, + they put in another $100k, which made total about a $348k donation. i guess a small drop in the bucket compared to the damage done, but i'm sure we're all paying for that 60 $billion congress approved from taxes too.

the firefighter reference was just about my good firefighter friend from CA who offered to go and spent a day on a bus and a week camped out on pavement at night in between days of recovering bodies. i just mention him cause he's not religeous either.

i'm sure there's thousands other similar stories, but this is my personal exposure to help toward relief outside of the media.

on a side note, here's an interesting non-media spinned story from my friend:

he calls me from louisiana on a Thursday and tells me he is doing house to house searches.

He and 70 other firefighters from Southern CA took a bus to Dallas ( or houston ). They also packed 2 semi trailers full of gear and supplies for the trip.

They met up with about 400 other firefighters from around the country at a 5 star Merriot hotel after a 24 hour bus ride. The idea was to stay the night before they were deployed to start working.

Well, they ended up staying at the hotel for 5 nights because no one could give them direction and permission to set up camp and begin work. I believe each day costs local ( to california ) tax payers about 100k for the 70 firefighters from here.

Once they were assigned to an area, he said it was 10 times worse than what you see on the news. They stayed a week and then came home.

Thanks for the clarification and apology Greg.

Now lets discuss Britney Spears. NOT! :)

no worries.

but I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record... ;)

Observations since Katrina and Rita:
1. Hotels rooms in Houston are hard to come by. They are populated by evacuees, FEMA, Coast Guard, NOAA, etc. And me.
2. People who can afford to do so evacuate and return by chartered jet.
3. People who are quick to act and buy tickets in a timely manner do so by airline.
4. Many others drive.
5. Some are stuck.
6. Rich or poor, they all care about their homes and what they are leaving or have left behind.

Greg. I'm offended that you had to apologize! :)

Frankly, I'm getting tired of people being offended at everything someone says, thus undermining free speech. I'm offended everyday, by things like Rap music, violence, sex, how young girls dress, lack of discipline, lack of character, political correctness, the welfare state, politics, etc. but don't demand others cease articulating their views. If you don't agree, say so and move on. Greg posted something he believed, if it offended you so be it. It wasn't perverse nor pornographic. Is the First Amendment only for what YOU agree with or is it for all speech?

congratulations for the #1 contraticting post i've ever read. :D .. my comments are light hearted .. i can't resist though.

lol, since when does being offended undermine free speech? doesn't free speech include being able to disagree in a public forum?

does it offend you that you were offended? :D

i thought we did this. what should those who didn't agree with the original post have done? hehe

::confused::

no one asked for an apology. i'm sorry gregs apology offended you :p

:) i really dont' care either way .. no need for an explination .. i just didn't understand that post at all.

sigh... doesn't everything? I grew up with a family curse, which I've passed on to my children and they are VERY aware of it. "If you even think about it, you WILL be caught. Doesn't matter if your friends got by with it a dozen times. The first time you try it, you WILL be caught - guaranteed!" Combine that curse (or blessing in my seasoned hind sight) with growing up in a small town of 2000 people, where your parents knew what you did in town that night before you got home...

me too, same problem. In my case, my brothers could get away with MURDER and my parents never knew. But me? Pass a note in class in grammar school and my mother would know before I got home! Jeez! But my brother could roll the pick-up, call a friend to come out with his tow truck, bring it back to the garage, and my parents would never know a thing about it! Lemme say it again: Jeez!!!!

No worries from here, Greg.

I think you're entitled to post about anything you want (as long as it doesn't defame anyone else). I think it's OK for others to post their opinions, too.

My opinion? I dislike the fact that everything has to become polarized with politics or religion. The nice thing about this country is that everyone is entitled to express their opinion. Let no deed go unpunished. ;)

best,

bill

Yes, and also the fact that you can schedule delivery to be convenient for you.

Can't risk having your water break while at a nightclub, don't you know.
