My personal email is a verizon.net email so is my wife's
Symptoms:
1)Last week my sister in law who has comcast account sent several emails to my verizon account which I did not get. I think they had attahements.
2)Today a restaurant where my firm is having and event sent my wife two emails to her verizon account which she did not get. The senders email was @nameofrestaurant.com
3) So restaurant sends the emails with attachments to me at my work email address both of which I get. I then forward those emails to my wife's verizon account but she does not get them.
3)I then try to forward the restaurant's email with attachments from my work email address to my verizon email and it does not arrive in my verizon inbox.
4) I then try to forward the restaurant's email WITHOUT the attachments from my work email address to my verizon address and it still does not arrive in my verizon inbox.
I am able to send test emails from my work address to my verizon address and they go through just fine.
5) We tried putting the restaurant's email address in my wifes Verizon address book but that still did not help.
6) I spend 35 minutes on the phone with verizon tech support who really tried to help but in the end they said its the restaurant's email not verizon.
7) Finally I tried to forward the restaurant's email with attachments via my work email to my wife's gmail account and still no joy.
8) nothing went to our verizon spam boxes

Could the folks at verizon be right that its a problem with the restaurant's email?

I presume Verizon is running a spam filter. There should be a way to look at it's logs and see if it's gobbling the emails. If so, there should be a way to whitelist the address.

Could someone in the past have been spamming from the restaurant's email address which caused them to get put on a "ban spam" list? But that wouldn't explain why you didn't get your SIL's emails. Does your Verizon email have a junk mail folder where you could possibly look for the messages and approve them.

Our office recently switched to Office365 and had been having these kinds of problems with email. Even interoffice email sometimes ends up in the junk mail folder.

How big are the attachments? Some mail servers have RIDICULOUSLY low attachment limits...

Adam,

Does it end up in the spam folder on Gmail? If so, it's being marked as spam either through and RBL or Google's filters.

You might plug their host name into one of the DNSBL search engines to see. Note that if they're using certain CRM systems it will be flagged as spam unless you specifically mark it to be allowed.

Sounds like typical spam filtering... e-mail is a lost cause overall, and "usually" works so people rely on it.

Best option: Does Verizon have a "whitelist" function for you...?

If they don't, dump them. All good mail providers should give users a solid whitelist that allows ANYTHING through, either from their pre-filtering (millions of messages thrown away before anyone sees them, every day), or post-filtering (the type that ends up in your spam folder). It's the only way and end-user can guarantee they can receive anything from anyone they need to.
