At this year Northern California 2008 Aviation Maintenance and Safety Symposium we are for the first time offering a job fair. I have prepared several job aids for new hires on interviewing, dress, and how to search for that perfect position. Many of our local FBOs are recruiting mechanics and this will be your chance to meet them in person.

I am planning on using the lunch hour from 12:00PM to 12:50PM to set up one room and provide training with a question and answer session for mechanics (open forum). In the evening after the 5:00PM several FAA Inspectors will be available to discuss alterations and other subjects with mechanics. We will have airworthiness and avionics inspectors available to answer your questions on their own time. Word is the FAA is bringing their immunity idol so bring your questions.

Aviall will have a large room with many venders available for the trade show and we are requesting they bring theirrecruitment department. The trade show will be open after 5:00PM until Aviall runs us all off. We are expecting over 40 venders from many companies so bring your resumes with you this year. You will be able to register at the Aviall web site at: http://www.aviall.com and click on product repair. After January 7, 2008 we should have the hyper link up to register. If not you can register the day of the event.

- This symposium is for anyone interested in aviation maintenance -

March 7 & 8, 2008 - .8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Registration 7:00 - 8:00 a.m.)

Location:
Fremont Marriott
46100 Landing Parkway
Fremont, CA 94538
Phone: (510) 413-3700

The Marriott is offering a special of $109.00 per night for the event if you mention Aviall. Rooms are filling up early so you may want to contact them now for revrsations.

Freemont is about half way between Oakland and San Jose airports and the hotel is just off of I-880.

We encourage pilots to attend as many of the subjects being taught apply not only to mechanics, but to pilots as well. There will be three lecturers going on at the same time so you can pick the subjects you would like to listen to.

This would be a good time to meet Stache and make new friends. If you decide to fly in Oakland (OAK) or Hayward (HWD) Airports are close to the hotel. Oakland would be a better since all the rental cars are at Oakland south. Oakland Airport has to FBOs Kaiser Air and Business Jet Center both provide fuel and ride to the rental lots or you could walk from the tie downs.

I have scheduled the following to represent the FAA at the seminar this year and speak:

  • Keynote speaker will be Administrative Law Judge Patrick G. Geraghty from the NTSB. If you haven't heard Judge Geraghty speak before this will be a real treat.
  • Agnes Rodriquez FAA legal Los Angles WP-7:hairraise:
  • Ken Gardner Washington DC SUPS (parts) program
  • Gary Cathey California Dept of Transportation Aeronautics Division
  • Guy Minor FAA FAST Team
  • Stache local guy
  • And of course many industry tradeshow guys.
The FAA will have at least four Nothern California FSDO's show up to once again prove they are all on the same page when the FAA speaks about field approvals. There is going to be a special lunch and after hours program just for field approvals. You can talk one on one with FAA types to answer your questions or concerns. The FAA is really trying to make this a very user friendly seminar.

Wives, kids, and dogs are welcome. We will provide water and treats for all hanger and flight dogs on site.

Last year many pilots and sons came together for the event and it was a great success.
