According to AOPA, good news about user fees:
For the first time in years, President Barack Obama’s new budget proposal does not include any new user fees for general aviation. Past budgets from the Obama administration have proposed a $100-per-flight fee for GA, but that idea has met with strong opposition from AOPA and others, including GA supporters in Congress who have repeatedly written to the White House insisting they would not support such a fee.

The president’s past three budget proposals included user fees as did his very first budget request. But the 2016 budget proposal, which was released on Feb. 2, is silent on the matter and includes increased FAA funding in many areas.

The latest budget includes a $15.8 billion request to fund the FAA and its activities, including the search for an avgas replacement, air traffic management, operations, airport infrastructure, and NextGen modernization. In making the request, the White House notes that the money is an investment in the future of aviation, an industry that accounts for more than 5 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product.

That means they will finally implement them.

Yup...

The lying POTUS will say anything to draw attention away from the issue....

Then late at night, a few hours before his precious golf game the next day, he will sign an executive order to force it down our throats....:mad2::mad2::mad2::mad:...

Do you have a source reference for that?

You're kidding, right?

The POTUS' actual MO is to try to out-Republican the Republicans (not very convincingly), and when they don't bite, give up.

In real life, the President's budget request is where he makes his most extreme shots. Anything that happens beyond that comes from Congress, generally over the President's objections. That's the budget process. The President is done introducing new budget items for FY2016. Congress may not be, but you really can't blame the President for that.

Nothing is going to happen. Except in the minds of conspiracy nuts.

User fees have been in every president's budget since Reagan. The user fee in Canada for a typical piston engine aircraft is a whooping $60 a year, about the same price as an AOPA membership.

Canada seems to be the ONE country that has done user fees right. (Although in reality, the U.S. has user fees too; they are collected at the fuel pump.)

I'd venture to say most singles in Canada don't use ATC services in many areas compared the the US. I've never flown a single into Canada, but IIRC it was a $100 or more for a Citation the last time I flew up there in 2006.
I'd be fine with user fees IF we got rid of the fuel taxes, which we all know isn't going to happen! :mad2:

Immigration executive order comes to mind. Thanks to an executive order Nebraska has 1,000 illegal immigrant kids added to our school and welfare & health system with no federal aid to offset costs BTW.

In the fiscal year ended June 30, 2014 the State of Nebraska received over 32% of its funding from the Federal Government in the form of grants and contracts. These funds were used for a variety of functions such as Medicaid, road construction, and measures of public safety and awareness.

Was there an increase in aid to cover the immigrants after the exec order was passed?

Apples and Oranges.

In Colorado, fuel taxes fund improvements for 72 airports. And there's serious budget trouble because lower fuel prices means lower tax revenue. Hence less money for airport improvements. None of the fuel tax revenue goes to ATC, IIRC.

So stop improving them. LOL. Not sure the "improvements" at many of them made significant impact in anything objectively worth what they cost.

Note: Maintenance and improvements are not the same thing. Improvements aren't mandatory. If no one is flying, most of the expenditures for improvements won't be helping that any.

Unless of course the improvements include strip clubs on every airport or something that will actually draw a crowd, any crowd. Maybe an observation deck or three.

Oh. I forgot. The big wigs passing through the FBOs at public airports don't like being noticed or photographed. You know. On public property. Posting a picture with a N-number taken from anywhere on the public property of certain airports around here has gotten to the point where the photographers live in fear of being kicked off that tiny strip of grass outside the fence.

Airports aren't exactly nice places to visit once the jet crowd shows up. But they do buy enough gas to pay for improvements like fences and razor wire.

I am not real sure how the state aviation taxes on fuel work in Wyoming, But...

I "thought" it was a flat rate of 27 cents a gallon regardless of how much the pump price is.... The cheaper the fuel is, the greater the chance more people will be flying and the greater the revenue is for the state.. So cheaper gas means MORE taxes for the state.. Not LESS.....

Auto fuel taxes work like that too.......Just look at the labels on gas pumps for vehicles....

The problem with that is GA will probably pay much more in user fees than we pay in federal fuel taxes. That is why the airlines are pushing user fees.

The majority of the funding for the the Airport Improvement Program comes from airline ticket fees and taxes. General aviation airports receive much more in grants than the GA fuel tax (19.3 cents/gallon) generates. The AIP grants are used to improve/replace runways, taxiways, lighting, etc.

Not sure on Wyoming either, but Colorado has a flat rate for avgas ($0.04/gallon) but a % tax on jet fuel. Federal tax is flat on avgas too ($0.193/gallon).

There are some things that government should do, and for safety reasons, not charge user fees. ATC is one of the few. I think it is a safe bet that the Feds are raising taxes across the board in many areas, and also funding things with more debt. ATC is no different.

So, yes I think it is a good call for ATC to continue to be funded the way it has been, and not charge user fees, and create a dissensentive to use the services. Getting a bill in the mail each month for talking to ATC would certainly act as a dissensentive, but make no mistake we are still paying MORE for everything at this point. So before you do your happy dance, and use this as validation, look at the total picture.

The government does something we like and folks here ***** about it. Only on POA.

I think this thread is proof positive that everyone is quite protective of THEIR welfare check but everyone else's be damned.

We are pilots.....

We have demonstrated the ability to earn more money then the general public to be able to afford our habit...

We make more money then the general public,, and in the process have paid into the govemnment through SOCIAL SECURITY and various other taxing schemes... Alot of money.. And the smart ones here will recover what we can...

Pilots DON'T get WELFARE checks......

WE pay into the system to fund all the dead beats who DON'T work and are sucking the system dry......

IMHO.. YMMV......:(
