I am not sure how many have heard this but no more use tax sticker needed in Illinois for those of us living here.
Still have to pay the tax unfortunately.

Not the yearly use tax. You must still pay taxes on a purchase but after this from what I was told no more yearly use tax.
FAA has nothing to do with this at all. I think you are mixing up several things. This is how all this came to be.
A few weeks ago I get this e-mail from the state of Illinois about the Taxes on my newly purchased airplane. I say newly purchased, I purchased it in 2010.
I am told I owe taxes on this, The lady whom helped me was very helpful and friendly.
After I gave her all my info and she told me what I owe in taxes, she tells me to make sure I go and pay my 5 dollars, she thought it was 5 dollars, for my use tax sticker that s applied to the tail of every airplane that is hangared in Illinois. She said this was a tax for using airports in Illinois and such.
Then I get another e-mail about my registration and how its coming up for renewal a week or so later. In this e-mail it stated this sticker has been done away with and no longer needed in the state of Illinois. It did not say I still need to pay this tax. This just stated what was owed in registration fee's.
My registration comes up in 2014, the FAA or whomever is allowing us to go ahead and process this info and get this done now so no lapse in coverage or something like that.
Yea I have not gone back and looked at all these e-mails. But you are right I am sure. I have just enough correct to be dangerous...lol
I wonder why they did away with this sticker if they, the state, was making or taking or money for it.
Is this just an Illinois thing or do other states make people pay this?
They tried raising the registration fee a couple of years ago and failed. By eliminating the sticker but leaving the registration fee in place they get their raise. So they will still make money on registration. Just because the sticker is gone does NOT mean you do not pay them every two years. YOU DO! Remember as a pilot you have to register in Illinois every two years and pay for that too! It costs a lot to send those gubernatorial pension checks to the big house in Colorado you know!
As for other state YMMV. Some have a yearly property tax that is far more onerous that what we have. Some states have nothing.
Yep and the newsletter is pretty useless too. Except for the 1st half 2013 issue and those guys on page 3Well, the IL IDOT spends more money sending out the newsletters than than they make on the $10 fee. It was worse when they had to buy a sticker, too.
