Aircraft engines?? wasn't the wright brothers engine an opposed?

According to Chet Peek's book 'The Taylorcraft Story' Continental began work on the A-40 in 1930. My T-craft came out of the factory in January of 1939 with serial # 127 of Lycoming's 1st effort at an opposed cylinder engine the 0-145. Aeronca had their own engine a two cylinder job in the C-2 back in October 1929.
The Taylor E-2 Cub was being produced in 1931 with an Cont. A-40. Might be some others out there..................
