Nice toys

They are around, there's a place in AZ that does jet warbird ratings.

Where would you find a CFI with 5 hours in type?
There are still a TON of Navy/USMC guys with TA-4J time.....I know at least a couple of retired jet jocks with time in them.

Plus Collins Foundation currently operates one and they actually offer flight training in it.

I would love to see the guys at Santa Fe pick this bird up and start offering training/rides....but I'd hate to see how much they'd have to charge with a purchase price like that. (Collins wants like 7 or 8k per hour). Compare that to an L29 or L39 and it is a hard sell.

its on an Experimental Exhibition cert so I don't think a Type Rating per se applies. Probably a procedure for an Letter of Authorization spelled out in its Operating Limitations?

That sucks....can't give rides in it.

Basically a really EXPENSIVE toy.

What would hourly operating costs (minus insurance) be for something like this? I'm only talking fuel + maint. reserves.

There is a "Blue Angel" within a 20 minute flight from your base Tom. He flew A4s, is current, and would be happy to check you out in your new toy.

Those are the guys in Santa Fe that I was talking about.....I seem to remember they were talking a while back about trying to bring a TA-4J online, but it never happened.....probably because it wasn't economically viable.

Problem I suspect is the cost - A T-33 runs 2700/hr, an L-39 is 2400 and an L-29 or Fouga is only 1800/hr.

Collins Foundation wanted around 8k for an hour in their's...and I'm pretty sure that was limited to the back seat. I didn't bother to ask how much for the F-4.

How many places could you go in it? it requires a GCT 85 to start it. Know any one with one?

You would have to find an old Blivit with a GCT 85 built in to carry with you, and an empty Blivit to carry the over night bags. plus 2 drop tanks to carry enough fuel to go some place.

Where did you see that..
