.5 tach/.6 Hobbs each way to LMO. Landed in 30 knot wind straight down the runway. Went to dinner with family who picked us up.

Airplane flew great. Miss the DME, which we've had a second opinion on, it may be dying. But that's another story.

On the way back at night we got "lasered". I'd guess it was actually ultra-bright white LED light. Was 6nm north of Metro (BJC) and had asked to transition their airspace southbound so I reported it to them.

Karen saw it first, it was reflecting off the ceiling. I had the lights low and red and kept seeing something glaring off of my corner of my glasses. When I turned to look... they say don't do that, but you can't resist it, saw someone illuminating 79M with a bright white point light, flashing it on and off.

After I reported it to BJC, and they asked for location and direction, they started announcing "unauthorized laser illumnination, 6 miles north of the Jeffco VOR, east to west, reported by a Cessna at 7400."

Here's the interesting part, when we got across town to APA they were announcing the same thing.

I asked if they had another report and then explained that the report was us after he cleared us to taxi to parking.

He said Metro tells Denver TRACON, TRACON tells all area towers, and they all are required to announce the laser event for 20 minutes. Interesting.

Was going to fuel with MoGas at LMO. Folks at Air West said their truck broke down for MoGas but it's normally $4.75/gal and the truck should be back fixed maybe by Wednesday sometime. Just as a side-note. 91 or 92 octane, no ethanol. For those looking for such stuff near DEN.

Huge lightning show way south of APA and some out East on the way back. Few boomers still going at 2100.

Probably can find the laser report recording in the BJC archives, and the APA conversation about it in the 2100-2200 Mountain time archives at LiveATC. May go diddle with that before bed.

So, wait, lemme get this straight:

People have nothing better to do nowadays than annoy random aircraft? Or are people just so mad that airplanes are flying and they are taking their aggression out via laser?

What was your height AGL when you were illuminated? I'm not up on the latest in high-intensity light sources, but I didn't think there were any LED options powerful enough to be an annoyance at any distance over a couple hundred feet.

If it was white, I'm thinking someone might have shot you with a Q-beam or similar.

My airplane partner got lasered one day. With the proliferation of those things and ignorance about airplanes, no surprise the incidents are on the rise.

My guess would be its likely to be some schmoe just screwing around not understanding the danger it causes to pilots. While I'd guess that there are a few aviation haters and sickos out there who would intentionally blind a pilot my guess is that most are folks who are ingnorant of the dangers amazing them selves at how far their laser can reach.

"6 north of BJC" ... "You were not authorized to overfly the People's Republik of Boulder. Take THAT and STAY OUT!" ...

Honestly, tho ... I guess I could see kids (and not so "kids") having no clue that shining lights at airplanes would have any negative consequences. Not excusing it in ANY way, but some kind of education would help ... Smokey the Bear-like campaign against lighting up aircraft?

Oh so just people arbitrarily shining their laser all over the place.

Agreed that there aren't too many "white" lasers out there. It was likely a very powerful white LED spotlight of some sort.

And I'm sure whoever was on the other end was just showing off that they could "light up that airplane up there" without even thinking about what the humans on board would experience, especially if they looked down into the beam.

I think it was Karen looking around trying to figure out what it was that got me to look down to my left, and the reflection off the corner of my glasses.

Once I looked, the Morse Code translator in my brain started trying to "copy" the pulsating white light for a brief moment as I stared down at it, then I realized there was no rhythm or rhyme to the on/off cycles. Heh.

The most important lesson is as follows:

Heck, I've been present for an acidental spotlighting of a plane
