……Its been in the works for several years but it’s not done until it appears in “the Guide”.

Remember…no repetitive color testing…..decades and decades to change

Diabetes on insulin….ADA lawsuit, 2014 to about 2018(?) to change. Mike Berry was still FAS.

The SSRI program: 5 years.

NIDDM as CACI : ~3years

So, soon is ~6 more months…

My SI first issuance is already in the pipeline, so doesn't change anything for me now. My AME said I had all the required documentation and he didn't see any concerns submitting it, so now just playing the waiting game for OKC.

You decide if they have anything to do with video or keto. I made my decision, which is based solely on reputation. Yours may be different.
From that terribly written press release, I take it that she was trying to run for senate and signed the circulator's affidavit on petitions that someone else had actually circulated, and the 12 felonies amount to 2 counts for each of 6 petitions. I'm frankly amazed that such a case went to trial, the South Dakota AG is probably a pretty boring job. And because you made me go look, I also noticed that the 6 perjury convictions were thrown out on appeal. The press release does comment positively on her medical practice though....

I assess that this is completely irrelevant to the video, keto diet, and this thread.

Those 6 perjury convictions were "thrown out" simply because paperwork submission didn't fit the precise legal definition of a "proceeding or action," and the court determined she could not legally be convicted of perjury for it. She still lied on the form and forged signatures and her sentence was upheld: https://atg.sd.gov/OurOffice/Media/pressreleasesdetail.aspx?id=1826#gsc.tab=0

To your other point if this is relevant or irrelevant to the video, keto and this thread, I'll leave it there and for others to make their own mind on this. I have brought up an element of due diligence to not argue how relevant this is to the thread but to make others aware what kind of person they might deal with, w/o judging her or her medical skills personally.

Wouldn't you know it? After just applying for my SI.

Just saw my SI medical was reviewed and approved on MedExpress. 10 day turn around, not bad for OKC. Now to watch the mailbox.

Again I have to thank everyone for the constructive comments, and @Mark K for posting the link to the FAA Diabetes information. Glad to be back on my feet figuratively and literally and hopefully back in the air soon!

It is great to be able to fly under a "real" medical, ain't it?
I flew under MOSAIC while gathering info for my AME (per his convos with OKC), then flew with an instructor whilst things were in motion.
Mine took longer, but the FAA part only took slightly more than six weeks until it popped up on MedXpress, and ten days to hit my mailbox. Getting all of the extra testing beforehand consumed months.

Here I am with a Dexcom CGM and Omnipod as a T1D managing my diabetes successfully but probably will never be able to put my PPL to use again.

Is there a reason you can’t go to Basic Med?

Can you still fly under Sport Pilot limits?

Admittedly I need to do more research on this.
You can fly basic med as long as you and your doctor assess you are OK to fly. You can even get the special issuance in progress and continue to fly on basic med while it is pending. It's only if you get outright denied that there's a hard stop on basic med.

There is a pathway for T1DM but it is challenging. See all the requirements at the link below.

FAA DM considerations

Also consider the ongoing requirements. Would be really easy to "fall off the bandwagon" so to speak with a missed visit etc. So it can be done. Having said that, BasicMed would be a great option if it works for your circumstance. And remember, if you apply for a renewal of your class three and are deferred, things may end very badly. Although not an AME, I have treated loads of T2DM as well as T1DM in conjunction with endocrinology. The majority of my patients would not likely meet criteria for the FAA over, say, a 10 year period consistently. The reasons are varied and complex, having to do with the disease process as well as human nature in varying proportions.

So, unless you absolutely, positively have to have class 3 or better, strongly consider BasicMed or SP.

my 2 cents

To be clear, I'm referring to DM on insulin in the above post. Non insulin T2DM isn't nearly as much of a certification problem-more of a check the boxes kind of certification assuming you meet the requirements and targets as midwestPA24 has had the good fortune of experiencing.

So I get the point Linberg was trying to make. On the other hand, there is something to be said for holding everyone to a basic level of ethics and honesty. I would have my doubts going to a "brilliant and technically gifted" surgeon who was convicted of unrelated items, but items that pointed to flaws in their essential moral and ethical character nonetheless.

Received my SI in the mail yesterday. So three weeks from time of initial appointment with AME to actually receiving the medical in the mail. Better than I expected. I will say the accompanying form letter comes across a little harsh, when the very first paragraph says you are being denied a medical, then the next says you are receiving a Special Issuance.
