Hello all, I am fairly new to POA. I have read the forums for a while and made a reply or two but never introduced my self. My name is John and I live in Statesville NC. I have a Grumman AA1 Yankee that is based at 8A7 Twin Lakes. I'm 30 years old and am a Tooling Engineer by profession specializing in plastic injection molds. I am a low time pilot as far as log books go at right around 100 hours logged. However I have flown most of my life as my father was a US Airways captain. So I would say my experience as a sum is greater than my 100 hours.

I am currently working on my IFR rating and may someday look into getting my CFI and Commercial. I have the bug to build an airplane, but can't find the right one just yet. I helped my father build a Questair Venture when I was younger and we restored a few older Pipers growing up. Flying is my passion and I would love to get to know more people in aviation. I have started meeting a few at the local airport, but you can never have too many aviation friends.

I am always up for helping a fellow aviator out so if anyone is passing through my area feel free to look me up. I also willingly pay for 100LL (or jetA if you are that fortunate) for rides around the patch in different airplanes. I look forward to meeting some of you and hopefully providing some helpful opinions as well as getting help when needed.

Welcome. 2 of us flew by Statesville on the way to 14A, Lake Norman, last April. I had Statesville in the back pocket if 14A didn't work out.

Welcome!!! Statesville is pretty country. I was out there awhile back attending one of Guy Mahar's Cardinal Owner conferences...

Plus you're not all that far from FlyingRon and his Navion of wonder.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! I like the area as well. 1.5 Hr. flight to the beach, and about an hour or less to the mountains. Flew into Mountain Empire (KMKJ) in VA the other day to practice some localizer approaches. I highly recommend stopping in there to anyone passing through. Great little place with a friendly staff and 5.00/gal 100LL if you pay with cash. 5.25 with credit.

It was interesting flying simulated IFR in a stock engine Grumman at 6k feet.

Hi, John...

I'm on the lake right off the end of the runway at 14A, Lake Norman Airpark. I've been in the area for many years, and was very involved in airplane ownership and flying out of 14A but have backed off for professional/business reasons that have taken all my time. Hope this doesn't happen to you!

Twin Lakes is a nice place, but a bit of a haul for me here- been a while since I visited so I really oughta stop in and hang out sometime.

Took awhile to get to 6K with that O-235, huh?

Regards,

Dave

Dave, I don't see that happening at least any time soon. Still a young bachelor so not much to get in the way. I work a simple 8-5 M-F job so that has it's pluses. The AA1 isn't a bad performer with just me in it and fuel. I can still get 400 fpm at 5k and flight plan 110kts at 6500 feet. Let me know if you are ever in the area. I have been into 14A a few times. Do you know Mikey Matthews with Acro Dynamics?

Some of my best friends are Newish.
Welcome. Have fun.
