Morning, all. Saw this in AvWeb today - in case you're not able to hop across the Really Big Pond, this sounds like great viewing - little bit of everything:

In case the news link doesn't work, here's a connection to the Air Sports site:

I remember Wanaka from the time Grant and I spent a week flying in New Zealand - it was the closest sealed runway to the place we were staying, just over the ridge, went there for fuel. I can guess where our hosts will be this week!

Gliding in those Southern Alps has got to be absolutely amazing....

So tTony did you pay the $25 to watch the video? is it worth it?

Pete

pete - no i havent subscribed to the live feed. im sure its cool though. my understanding is the gliders are covered inside and out with bullet cameras letting you really get into the race with the competitors. helicopters are following along the course covering the action. this format really lends itself to making sailplane racing a spectator sport which is great for publicitity. I just wish they had to fly 1-26's or something so they could capture more landouts on tape :D

You're evil tony, but I like it. It would be fun to see what those guys could do in a sub 30:1 floater. Also I remember seeing talk of all that footage being turned into a documentary later. That would be pretty cool.

yea i think they have made some pretty killer DVD's from past GP events.

if i can find a bullet cam for next spring I think im going to put it on the top of the vertical of the glider. would make for some great video of many landouts. could be an excellent instructional tool.
