The plane is annual and the wings looked a little dry so i decided to treat the plane with LPS. Seeing the old wiring for the ancient lights I ordered up some Whelen Orions, man these things are solid. Progress pics.

Don't stare at the 500.....it's bout like looking at a welder The Orion 500 and the LED beacon combined with the Navworks bulbs in the wing tips showed a pretty significant reduction in current draw on my horse.

Now you can run them all the time too!

We did this on the 310 at annual. Huge improvement. Last night I was showing them off to my friends, who were duly impressed. :)

Plus, in some cases you can remove the tail or belly beacon/strobes, which we did. Gained us a few knots.

What did they run you?

I was around $1200 installed for my beacon and tail position light. Double that for adding the Orion 650s.

Yikes

These are the times I think I should have gone experimental.

Yah it sucks but I fly in some very busy airspace. Class D under a Class B next to 2 class C's and 1 mile from Mac Dill AFB Class"go into it and get shot down". I can't tell you how many times I here "negative" when other planes are askd if they see me. If they cost double I'd probably pay it. Plus 6 passenger experimental with AC and my payload, ain't cheap.

You guys need to come to my forum at Oshkosh. I think I can do the equal of your lights for about $50-75 in parts and some pretty trivial installation costs. But then again, getting approvals for standard airworthiness certificated ...

I want to fly in 2 days not 2 years, got a website?

I'm guessing something useful that would be helpful to the thread?? :dunno:

That would have been my guess also. I suspect the OP didn't quite understand that new designs that we talk about at Oshkosh forums are NOT some sort of marketing hype for stuff you already have ready to sell on the shelf. They are bleeding edge stuff that is barely off the drawing boards and being presented for the sole purpose of laying out a new idea and having the assembled multitudes pick it apart to find flaws that the designer didn't consider.

From his comments I guess he wants to throw money at a solution without any work on his part. Not part of the Oshkosh mentality.

Jim, are you gonna throw out landing light solutions? Even in the experimental world, HID's and Powerful LED's ain't cheap.

Gonna give it my best shot. Powerful LEDs aren't cheap, even on the wholesale market, but I think we can do some stuff that at least leads us down the path of a solution.

Lights on!

They look great,,,,I'm really happy I took the tip tanks off and got a flashlight inside them. The left tank had a paint chip the size of a half dollar and the right had fiberglass chips. Both looked like under the right conditions could block the port. I was a little surprised how small the tanks actually were compared to the size of the tip. I feel confident I could take them off in less than 20 minutes if empty now. Don't know how that helps me but there it is.
