There’s an interesting Reddit post discussing new rules for separating VFR and IFR traffic in controlled airspace:

The updated rule itself is 7110.803 : https://www.faa.gov/regulations_pol...fm/go/document.information/documentID/1045080

As I understand it, the gist is that ATC must now provide positive separation (vectors) to any VFR/IFR aircraft pair passing within 1.5 miles of each other. There’s some speculation on the Reddit thread that this is going to result in controllers refusing to approve flight following in busy airspace since it increases workload.

Any thoughts from the POA crowd? Is this a major change for GA, or does it just codify what ATC is already doing?

Of course it is. C90's been that way for 20 years. And any such requirement means the pilots will lose the ability to navigate on their own VFR in space "where control is exercised".

Good? Bad? Not sure it's all good. Where I fly you gotta have ADSB, anyway....

It probably won’t be any change for my area - central/south Florida. It’s already so busy that it’s quite rare to get flight following.
