It's going to be "throw up city" in a following sea....

What isn't? - worst ride ever was stuck in the loop current with bow into current and seas up the, errr, ummm, stern on the Discoverer 534. I'll swear my ears were still swimming after two days ashore.

That's common. The only difference between a turbofan and turboshaft is what you attach the output power to. So there are a number of marine/industrial engines that start off their lives as turbofans, and then get the fan shaft attached to something else.

The guy that gave me my A&P rating gave up working on aircraft and became a private contractor maintaining GE turbines in power stations and other industrial applications.

The choo choo train guys do okay too. Where's our resident train guy?

Typical Navy screw up. Hasn't anyone noticed they put the hull on upside down???? :D

(OBTW the Hamilton class HECs were the first US warships to utilize gas turbines. A pair of P&W JT8Ds were paired with Fairbanks Morse 18cyl diesels.)

Neat ship, they finally started shaping them correctly again to give them a decent ride and efficiency at speed, however why the hell they use a gas turbine is beyond me. They should have just taken a reactor or two from the carrier they just decommissioned that were fueled a coupled years ago and put them in there. What a waste of money and fuel. The rest of the world recycles and retasks parts and machines, why the hell can't the military? Do we have to be so damned wasteful?
