Hi! Really glad to find these forums. I am a new student pilot, although fortunate enough to have done some flying with a wonderful friend for several years. Just passed the written exam (yay!) and just had my first flight lesson with a CFI for the logbook this week!

Flying in a Cessna 172, all analog which I think is great for training. There is so much to all of this that I was hoping to connect with others going through it too. Not learning for a career, but to enjoy GA flying.

Welcome! Lots of great info and people here.

Welcome, Della, and congrats on passing the written before your first logged lesson. That's a nice way round to do it. Starting on steam gauges sounds like a good foundation too.

I'm curious what feels like the biggest hurdle so far now that you're flying with a CFI. Landings, or the radio calls? Those seem to be the two things almost every student mentions, especially at a quiet rural field where you don't get much practice talking to a tower.

Welcome enjoy your time here, remember flying is supposed to be fun

Welcome. Not currently going through it but I did just get my PPL back in February. I also started with steam gauges in a 172. Seemed like it would be easier to transition to glass after learning to fly the old school way than the other way around. Good luck! And enjoy the ride. Since you're not doing it for a career (I didn't either), make sure to enjoy the experience as you learn.

Welcome, Della!

just curious…is Della a family name, were your parents Hoyt Axton fans, or…?

I don’t think I’ve ever met a Della before. But I do have a friend Bruce whose middle name is Wayne.
