new nav system..

This is really a sort of 'indoor' navigation system, no way able to challenge the universality and broad reach of the GPS. NAVSOP will be totally useless in remote, unpopulated areas of any country where earth based transmitters are very few and using them for position fixing will come with big error. I just don't see any future of such a system for a pilot in an aircraft, for a firefighter or a cop in a busy city probably much more likely.

Gut feel? There's a whole lot of crap out there one can navigate by. I think I like mine monitored and maintained by pros for the purpose of navigation.

A while back I read about a target detection/tracking system (e.g. RADAR) that was passive (no transmitted signal to lock on with a HARM missile) and capable of defeating almost any stealth technology. I was supposed to work by detecting and correlating reflections of all RF sources in the area, potentially even long range low frequency signals.

It sounds like it will even use GPS, if available. I think it has a lot of promise. The specifically mentioned it having an advantage in remote areas. I would be interested in hearing more about it.

I work for them. The goal is to provide a multi-source, redundant, fault-tolerant nav system that will survive GPS jamming or other attempts to degrade military navigation (such as Anti-Sat missiles targeted at GPS sats).

It will also function in dense urban environments, and even underground (subways, basements, garages, etc).
Lots of potential uses, including special ops, military operations in urban terrain, public safety, etc.

RF reflections must be a PITA to filter out. Neat tech. Not ready for airplanes.
