Garmin 196 that is still new in the box with all the accessories. These will run on 4 AA batteries if needed! I used one in my Cub with no electrical system and it was great.

I use one all the time. I carry spare batteries and I like not worrying about rechargeables. Updates are still available from Garmin.

They quit making the 196 about 3 years ago. I bought one brand new as soon as they discontinued them and used it.
I got this one from a pilot shop that found it on the shelf.

Naw. I'd bet that they just quit selling them 3 years ago, after they depleted their 15 year old unsold inventory. It's tough to keep making old electronic gizmos when the components you use obsolete every 18 months or so.
