NEW ILS

Back in April 2011, when NAS Brunswick(Maine) officially became "Formerly," and the airport became KBXM, some of you asked if there was ILS in operation. There wasn't at that time.
Announcing: Effective February 09, 2012, KBXM will have ILS in operation. Sheets with the ILS data were being passed around today at the FBO Flight Level Aviation.

[EDIT] The 2nd International Fly-In at KBXM will be on June 02 and June 03, 2012. Last year 282 planes came for the 1 day event. How many will arrive during 2 days this year remains to be seen. Y'all come!

Awesome! I flew into BXM a few times this past summer and it is a neat place. Lots of runway, not very many planes (yet).

There are 14 of us with planes inside the huge and heated Hangar 6; however, that's winter quarters during December through March. One of the FAA guys spoke at a recent EAA Chapter meeting. He described his capacity as researching/implementing changes that are in the plans for KBXM. The ILS was a key item; improved lighting was another. The P-3AN is still in the hangar, two new propeller assemblies having been replaced. As soon as required testing is done the P-3 will be back with Brazilian Air force.

Did they just re-activate and flight-test the military hardware (and hook it up to FAA monitoring) or did they install a new system ?

I don't have sufficient information to give you a correct answer. Be aware that only one of the two 8000' RWYs are in use: RWY 1R and RWY 19L.
The top of the hand-out sheet lists LOC/DME I-BXM 109.3 Channel 30 App CRS 12° Rwy ldg 8000 THRE 62 Apt. Elev 75.

Below that data appears the mapped graphics which are foreign to me because I'm not IR.

UPDATE: E-mail that just came through to Hangar 6 tenants:

"KBXM ILS 01R is now active.

However both GPS approache procedures are NA for 1+/- month. Check your notams regulary.
