Hi everyone,

A new bipartisan bill has been proposed in the U.S. House of Representatives to improve the FAA’s mental health policies. Specifically, this bill requires the FAA to implement the recommendations from the working group established by the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024. The current statutory language says the administrator “may” implement those changes. This bill would require them.

If you support the idea of FAA mental health reform, I’d encourage you to write your representative and ask them to support this bill. Members of Congress typically respond better when you can point them to a specific proposal. This may seem like a small step, but as someone who wants to see change, I think every little bit helps.

I contacted my rep. Not sure what the salary is but $13M should at least be enough to hire 50 reviewers on top of the apparently 3-5 they have now.

This legislation affects all classes of medical certificates used for both domestic and foreign flight operations. Fortunately there are lobby groups to oppose this legislation.

It’s been 20 years and the FAA has yet to implement photos on pilot certificates as mandated by Congress. What makes anyone think they’ll comply with any other law?
Badly informed. That specific line item was never appropriated (by CONGRESS),
