Good Aftwrnoon,

I do have an interesting case setting up here. Have been going through this back and forth with the FAA without being denied. I am currently in my 3rd round of psychiatric evaluation. I was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder and after 2 HIMS Psych evals, Dr.Glass determined that I was not bipolar along with the neuropsych. testing. However the FAA now follows up with a letter saying to be evaluated for “adjustment disorder.” Dr Glass had explicitly put in the report it was situational depression and he is equally as confused as I am. How do I proceed going forward?

If the duration of situational disorder was >24 months it cannot be situational by DSM 5 which limits it to 2 years. That requries specifiic justification for calling it that. Dr Glass is very reasonable ($$s) as far as HMS pscyhiatrists go. If pointed out, he'll probalby just write an addendum.

Do you guys alway advise lawsuit, when you're not understanding the defintions? That's the surest way to get FAA to close a file....and cost two years when the general counsel shuts down the doctors due to a suit.

FAA is very very cautious when you have been labelled bipolar in the past. That is commonly, (not always) a "noooooo never......" situation. It's quite a lot for a psychiatrist to "Undo" another's diagnosis...already as you report he has (If you "go south" in the future both he and the FAA get sued).

I am advising "work with George". It's probably about DSM defintions.

Guys never intended this to get to an argument. No nothing is being hidden and for clarification Dr Glass is a HIMS Psychiatrist working for the FAA. Now on the last two reports he did report it was “situational depression.” As to why he didn’t know it was adjustment disorder, no idea. My AME is already speaking to him. The diagnosis was not only recurred by him, but also by the HIMS neuropsychologist who performed the cognitive battery assessments AND two other psychiatrists local in town. It’s been a long 2 years in this process. Although this process is long and irritating, I do everything in my power to go to every specialist asked by the FAA, just gets confusing sometimes. Dr. Bruce appreciate the insight, sometimes every AME and specialist tell you one thing and it’s so hard to know what is wrong and right.
