So since we seem to be talking Jobs. A friend's son ( and aspiring pilot) is graduating with a Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware in May. Boy has excellent grades and UD is one of the best Chem E schools in the Country. He's looking for his first job. Is very interested in fuels but will happy to work in any industry as a chem Engineer. Location is open.

If anyone in the vast expanse of POA knows of anyone, anything or any company that might be looking to hire a newly minted Chemical Engineer, kindly let me know

Had a niece graduate with a chemical engineering degree a couple years ago - she got hired by Schlumberger at a pretty good salary. A chem eng grad should have no problem finding a job.

Good pick for a college degree. Got my BSChE from UT Austin.

I've noticed if there is someone here in Texas with a Chem E degree now that is broke and hungry, it's his own fault.

Emerson Scientific in Shakopee MN.
Phillips 66(not ConocoPhillips), Houston TX, or field work in the Bakken oil field.
Chevron, Houston TX, or Bakken.
Schlumberger in IL somewhere
Johnson controls, Milwaukee WI

If he's a decent grad from Delaware he should be able to get on here at around $55-80k starting.

Would seem obvious being at UD, but Dow comes immediately to mind. I'd think the UD placement office and at least a few profs would have an "in" at that company.

Yea we joke that the University of Delaware is the farm team for Dupont and Dow. My understanding is that they have the pick of the litter so to speak and basically pick the grads with 4.0s. The guy with the 3.5 or 3.6 who would be a first round pick anywhere else is a 5th round draft choice in Delaware. Although my partner who was a mech E major at Delaware tells me his friends that work at Dow and Dupont tell him they are interviewing but have a hiring freeze.

I thought the two Ds were too obvious. I've heard from my kid, from other sources that working for Dupont is not very attractive. Third-hand, so no guarantees.

Has he checked into Invista?

How about one of the fracking companies out in Western Penn, Eastern Ohio and/or WV?

I got his resume and sent him a few job listings for Koch, Invista, and Flint Hills Resources. A couple are fuel related.

Most "require" 3 years experience. (APPLY ANYWAY!)

The real problem is that the Koch companies REALLY like to hire from the intern pool. Internships really are the best way to get your foot in the door.
