The transponder thread got me thinking about trying to build a single screen PAR set using yacht surplus radars and a KVH 1m gyro stabilized/tracking satellite head and a Seatel control box.

The funny thing is I can get all this stuff for free.:D 5 year old quarter million dollar gear is now garbage and will do the job.

Then I got to thinking, I can get a 25kW 3cm magnetotron and wave guide for free, (same for a 60kW 10cm rig, it will be old though, but functioning. These things are huge money new), I could put them on the bottom of something like a Lancair 360 and provide radar jamming escort for Cannonballers. You could charge $25k easy, if it works out the next year they'll be bidding. You always start with $50k in your sock for fines and bail along the way, and that's the both of you.

I think it has potential to make a few extra bucks.

I know right? Everything the government has we have the right to have. The intent Madison projected was the Second guaranties the ability of the citizens to a fair fight with the government. Yet when I order a dozen M-388s they won't process my order, bastards.

None to be had anyway. I think they were all destroyed in the early 70's. Not particularly accurate and almost as dangerous to the operator as it was to the enemy !

If you find some old SHRIKE or HARM missiles let me know. I want something a little more active than a Valentine V1 for speed trap avoidance.

Plus they would look awesome on the roof rack. :D

Its not hard to jam any civilian radar at all...I remember once during a REFORGER in Germany, Frankfurt Approach and Tower begging everyone on every available frequency to turn off whatever was jamming them...as they were totally shut down for several hours...It finally turned out that One B-52 flown in from Barksdale on a low level simulated nuke strike had put its jammer into operational vs training mode and just destroyed the German ATC system for the day and they were not even trying...it remained very classified at the time...

Could be a growth industry....

Ask the EF-111 EWO's who got caught running up and down the interstate between Mountain Home and Boise (a long and dull drive but the only way to find any sort of night life if you're based at MUO) at 100 mph with a radar jammer they built out of Radio Shack bits and pieces about that sort of activity. The FCC and the Idaho State Police both had a piece of that action. Note that while you might jam the first speed trap radar, you can't outrun the radio wave that trooper sends to the unmarked unit 20 miles up the highway to be ready to clock you the old-fashioned way.

They long had a problem at ORF when Navy ships would leave IFF turned on......

Tomcat's old AWG-9 used to jam our PAR. Made a hatched pattern on the screen. Sometimes had to tell them to turn it off. Cleared up immediately.

Actually, closer to the truth of the 2nd was that Madison et al wanted a citizenry that could be called up into military service with their guns already, and proficient in their use. That means that the "people" had the same guns as the Army did.

Christ, today, you propose a right, nay a duty, to own a full-auto with a grenade launcher and the pantywaists will faint straight away.
