New 172 radios

I finally signed up to replace my original 1977 Cessna radios in the 172, the kids demanded it! They're pulling the Cessna 300 nav com, audio panel, intercom, and ADF out. They are installing a new Garmin 340 audio panel, Garmin 650, and Nav indicator. I would really like to install a 330 transponder, but I think I'm just having the change the transponder face and move it to the main stack for now.

I have a King HSI system for it, but I don't want to put it down that long. I really want to spend the time and remake the panel when I install the HSI.

Now I can't joke around about the 172 having the same radios that it had the same year I graduated from high school. The sad part is that the upgrade will cost roughly 1/2 of the cost of the airplane. I better be flying more.

It was me, though, I'd get the PS Engineering PMA8000B audio panel over the Garmin.

That's what I did. It was close though. The 340 is a little less expensive.

Main thing is, their intercom and muting is vastly superior.

Did you get an "isolate" button for the pilot so you don't have to listen to those kids anymore?

I thought the 340 has isolation, the current intercom does. My poor Cessna audio panel works okay, but it wont work with the new equipment. In most cases there wont be anybody in the rear seat. I'm hoping the 3 kids will be up front as PIC on their flights. I have an extra EDM 700 that I can put into the spot of the intercom.

All I need is time to do all of the extras while working to pay for the other upgrades.
