Pretty routine weekend at the beach, first one this year!:D My wife and I flew down to Destin Friday afternoon with our two dogs in the Conquest, weather was perfect! On Sunday, I wanted to watch the Masters, so we could either leave early or late, so we decided to leave around 6:00 Central time, which turned into 6:45, but no big deal. ;)
Anyway, I get my clearance, we load up the dogs and I crawl into the left seat as my wife closes the door, like she's done 100's of times. Taxi out, second in line, cleared to depart runway heading climb to 2000. Take off is normal, cleared to 10K, turn left to 040. Wife comes up and says there is a noise, like popcorn or rocks hitting the tail. :dunno: I am of course busy, and tell her to wait a minute, at 5000 feet the noise is still there, she's checked the seat belts, all inside, so I tell Jax Center we need to return to Destin to investigate a noise. :mad2:
So, we return to Destin and I make a very good landing!:D Taxi up to the FBO and one of the line guys walks out and says, "I saw that hanging out when you left" :mad2::mad2: It was a retractable dog leash, about 2 foot hanging out the bottom of the door and beating the crap out of the lower fuselage! :mad2: I took these pictures last night when I got home to FTY, not pretty, I don't think it will buff right out.

Actually the controller at Eglin and I joked about that! He asked it the dog was still attached to the leash. :nono::nono:

No major damage, may be a costly lesson. It's only paint. Thanks for sharing,I'm sure no one else has ever done anything like that.

Did you tell the Line Boy "Thanks for the Heads UP!!"

Actually, my wife talked to him, I never left the seat, but I was a little "miffed" more at myself and my wife for letting it happen, but he could have grabbed a mic from the unicom and said SOMETHING!:mad2:

No, it's supposed to be like that, right?
