Hi y’all. Because I was a drunk over 6 years ago I am required to jump through hoops to get my medical certificate, & one of those hoops is to meet with a neuropsych & do a cogscreen.
Per a document I signed if I have a complaint I am to write the doctor, & if she cannot resolve the complaint I am to write the florida psych board. I mailed a formal complaint letter to the doc.
Monday I meet with my HIMS AME for the first time & will go over this with him.
Can someone please tell me what you think of the circumstance in my note below? Thank you

I first met with Dr. S december 8, 2022 at 9a via video, and she told me payment would be $3500 via 3 payments of $1,000, $1250, $1250.
I was initially told to meet her at her Winter Park office at 9a on january 20, 2023 for my testing. The day before, I received a text to meet at 8:15a and I showed up at 8:15a. Our first testing session on january 20, 2023 S confirmed she had the 8:15 time wrong on the text. There were several other delays that day: she was late from lunch, she had to go get a battery for the ipencil, she had to figure out how to work the ipencil, she had to figure out how to work the testing system. We did not finish testing that day and S told me to come back on the 25th and that I would not be charged for the additional hours and did not tell me another doctor would be performing the testing and evaluating the results. I had to do a second drug test because of this second day of testing. After the second day of testing I was told to come back on the 27th for a final test because she didn’t have it with her. She said again that I would not have to pay for this final day and did not talk to me about any further payments to Dr. G who performed my 2nd & 3rd days of testing.
On the 25th I received a surprise bill for $500. January 27th I asked Dr. G if she knew anything about the $500, she said that she did not know anything about the billing. I did not see Dr. S at all on the 27th. I texted and left a voicemail with Dr. S asking her to please contact me regarding the billing, I have not yet heard back. Tomorrow, friday february 10, 2023 is the 2 week mark from the last day of testing and I should be receiving my results.

Your appointment could have better handled. I do not use the services of a specialist that treats my aviators in such a manner. I do wonder if your HIMS-AME chose this doctor for you? Your letter of complaint is appropriate.

Thank you so much for responding. I figured I’d get the neuropsych appointment out of the way & I chose her before meeting with my AME, my mistake. I’ve run this by a few other people & they all say this is unethical. I had to post here to see if I was missing something-like maybe she wanted a bribe or something
I can’t wait to meet with my HIMS AME tomorrow. Thanks again for response

This is NOT uncommon. Bravo on you for writing that letter. Personally, it seems a bit understated…

There appears to be ZERO oversight in the entire HIMS program. Your entire career in the hands of a ad hoc money grubbing unregulated system that uses ZERO checks and balances. Mostly because it STRIVES to use coercion as its basis for effectiveness. Not my concept, comes right off himsprogram.com.

Most problems arise by airmen/women going off [ill advised] before their application has been determined by the FAA to be of the HIMS kind and before the applicant has contracted with the services of an HIMS-AME. I determine who my applicants see. They see nothing like this airman described!

For the vast majority of the clients we identify as needing HIMS services they usually also need a HIMS AME. In those situations it is typically better for the local HIMS AME to recommend the other associated HIMS professionals since they are more likely than us to know the quality of work. This personal knowledge should help avoid situations like the OP had.

Thank you so much for your input

Thank all of y’all for your input. I’m grateful & more knowledgable & will use this info to help others in the future.
I also want to add that I wouldn’t go back in time if I could because working with Dr. G was such a pleasure! I hope she opens her own practice.

I’ve heard great things about you Dr. Chien, thank you for taking time to comment. Wish you were in florida.
