Well I’ve developed another mechanical need for my Piper Arrow IV. Had to do an emergency gear extension one day and turns out it was a failed hydraulic power pack. Part # HYC5005OE

My mechanic ordered one from QAA. Received and installed only to find it was inop. Go figure. It has gone back to them but apparently was the only one they had in stock. That one has been sent for rebuild at Aerospace Rotables with a weeks-long wait.

I’ve tried Power Packs Plus in Reno and sounds like I’d be out in their back order queue, waiting for rebuilds and 4-6 weeks is their guess.

Just throwing it out there in case anyone knows of one available to get back in the air sooner. Thank you!

FYI I have had 2 from QAA, one lasted 6 months and then failed, the second ran intermittently and had to be returned, bad brushes in the motor, for warranty replacement. Lots of lost money on labor and weeks of lost time. QAA uses Aerospace Turbine Rotables for overhaul, neither offer quality products anymore.

I had one replaced last year and it failed after 45 hours. Rotables wanted 4500 to repair it. I told them no and had them send it back. I got one from spruce and so far so good. But Rotables seem to be the only option now. My friend got a cox rebuilt one and its been great for me. These power pack costs and labor are making me want to switch to a Dakota. If this next one fails in less then a year im out.
