Need help with first OSH trip!

Soo I need a little help, and I'll do my best to keep the damn post simple. We'll see how it goes.

Everyone has been so nice offering me a place to stay, to fly in, fly out, camp, stay in a dorm, a house, etc. All I need to really do, is get there and get home. But maybe all of you can help me make a better plan. A little background is, that I've never been to Airventure before, I have no clue what I'm in for, and what I should avoid. Here's my options that I have so far.

Option #1:
Commercial to Ohare tomorrow, drive a car to OSH, camp with the Mooney guys until Wednesday, keep the rental car the entire time, drive back to Ohare, and fly commercial home. I've got to carry a lot of gear, but a nice 4 day trip with people I know.

Option #2:
Fly to Minneapolis tomorrow, stay overnight and fly in to OSH in a Myers 200D, camp with the Mooney guys until Wed, find a place to stay all the way until Sunday, fly home in the Myers. An extensive 8 day trip but flying into and out of the event my first trip out. What a story.

Option #3:
Fly to Ohare Thursday, rental car to OSH, find a place to stay when I get there, Stay until Sunday and fly home in the Myers. A 4 day trip with some logistics (rental car drop off, sleeping arrangements, etc.)

Option #4:
Keep my ass home, find something productive to do, and plan better next year. ;p

Option #5:
You the reader hold the key to this option. If you have some magical solution for me, I'm all ears. :)

Logistics are too complicated for me, but if you can make it, I know George told me yesterday he still has rooms available at the Gruenhagen dorm. $60/night with no A/C, but he might be able to get you an A/C for a little extra but keep that to yourself. Gruenhagen frowns on it because they rent A/C rooms for much more.

The weather is forecast to be mild so you may not need one.

Contact George Ramin if you're interested: 281-658-5465. Keep calling him because he does not text. Tell him you're from Texas and he may be able to get you in the Texas group with all us retards...:D

Re: Need help with first OSH trip!

Option 2. Plan to camp all week. If "the Mooney guys" leave, I'm sure you can find a spot in Scholler. If the Myers is going to a camping area, just camp with them!

At this stage, you probably won't find a hotel room within an hour drive... And camping on the field is THE way to truly experience Airventure. 24/7 aviation heaven!

Why not fly into MKE instead of ORD?

My wife can't do camping so we're commerical into MKE, rental car, hotel in Germantown, commercial out of MKE back to ATL.

I can have the camp site all week, but I have no interest in camping for 8 days. My back will disintegrate into powder. ;p Ok, I'd probably be fine, but I don't want to sit out and camp all alone for 4 days.

The only reason for ORD is my round trip ticket is the same as a one way ticket to MKE

Re: Need help with first OSH trip!

Shane: You won't be camping alone. At Oshkosh, there are only three kinds of people: Old friends, new friends, and friends you haven't met yet.

You have some extra details that you don't need. Just get there and stay with someone. Most would prefer a flush toilet and running water.

The easiest sounds like commercial to ORD then drive up.

Commerically fly to MKE or GRB. Renta a car there and drive to OSH.

Thanks for all the help! I did my best not to over-complicate things, but the situation just had some complications.

I'm working out my flight now, and hopefully I'll get to see a few of you there!
