Need Advice

So he should confess to something the FAA doesn’t know about and throw himself in the abyss of HIMS, while also by default confessing to hiding something from the FAA?

In general often saying less is the default best answer
Getting a private consultation with a HIMS AME for advice is not the same thing as reporting it to the FAA.

So long as you’re not engaging them as a AME and so long as they don’t take it upon themselves report you

It is key to always, do the recon b4 the mission.

The key is to not immortalize drug experimentation or other illegal stuff and then text it to people, especially your girlfriend or wife lol

I’d wager good chance he still is fine, so long as she decides to just have a smooth breakup and move on

I was young and dump this is happen a decade ago i wasn’t even thinking about going to flight school . by the end i’m human i did a mistake and i learned from it .

If she's threatening to rat him to the FAA, it's already not a smooth breakup.

Hell hath no fury...

She’ll realize she’s not THAT mad at him after she gets a letter from a law office that she’ll be dragged through the courts.

I’d also wager she wouldn’t have done it anyways, most people ether talk about it or are about it, if she didn’t report him already I’d wager 85% she isn’t going to do

One-time reaction + no hospital visit + no diagnosis + nothing in any medical system = not much for the FAA to act on from a third-party complaint. Texts aren't medical records.
Where people get into trouble is when this stuff gets discovered during a formal review and it looks like they were hiding something. Dr. Bruce's point is key: Get in front of a HIMS AME now, before anything lands at the FAA. The pilots who fare worst are the ones who wait and get surprised.
If a full review does get triggered down the road, the neuropsychological evaluation (CogScreen-AE) would be part of it. But that's a "show your brain is fine" step, not an automatic disqualifier. One event, 11 years ago with no clinical footprint, isn't the profile that evaluation was designed to fail.
This is a super tricky one. So many uncertainties.

I've had a few cases that were similar but different that could possibly be helpful here....

One case I had where a previous romantic connection reported accusations as a means to do damage to the pilot and it did ultimately trigger an investigation that involved medical, which I assisted with...but ultimately completed exonerated the pilot and he received an eligibility letter with no SI or need to participate in HIMS.

I've also had several cases where applicants disclosed use of psychedelics or had instances where they landed in an ER due to some past drug use due to intoxication. Most of these cases that were a one time incident required a personal statement, medical records and then possibly a SAE (substance abuse evaluation) to confirm they did not in fact carry a true substance use diagnosis. If that appointment went well the process typically ended there, with or without some possible no notice drug testing.

Not sure if any of that is useful...

Obviously you are a professional in the medical industry with some experience with these issues.

What would you recommend as a roadmap as to who, what, why, where?

Pretend it ever happened and wait to see what happens? Are there intelligent steps to take in advance? Or are the possible steps merely affirming an allegation that is currently not on the FAA’s radar.

My last medical with AME they ask about any drug/alcohol use. If you said yes used xxx drug xx years ago and he issued - they didn't think much of it. But I think you are concerned because you didn’t mention the use? You are required to report all use in lifetime especially if you advertised it. One time use is not the concern here - intentional falsification would be my concern.

No, only use within the past 2 years has to be reported.
I was referring to if an AME asks during exam. Not reporting directly to FAA. I could be wrong but my AME asked first exam.

If it’s outside of the regulatory reporting timeframe the answer is 100% NO.

I’d also probably not use a AME who goes off reservation asking questions beyond the scope to possibly disqualify you and I would 100% PIREP that around

You are probably right but my AME asked… If I were in the OP position and the AME asked I would had said yes tried xx drug xx years ago and that’s that.. I curious if the AME asked OP or not. One time use over 11 years ago shouldn’t be of much concern UNLESS there’s more to this. I’d say it’s acute intoxication effects (hallucination), not psychosis. IMO

It’s administrative

The FAA is not your friend

But if it's called into the hotline you are a cooked goose. And choose your fish, in the sea, more carefully. And stop documenting your life in texts. That's just not normal.

Find a HIMS AME who will work with you to have everything you need. Do not go with an application. You want a consult. No application = no need of the AME to make any sort of report.

Scout the mission before the job.....

Sadly in the 2020s documenting your life in text, and on the “socials” is quite normal.

I’m so thankful the video everything, Karen, social media, texts, etc didn’t exist when I was growing up. Worse you got was gossip and a little school yard tussle fixed that

I feel bad for anyone under 30 these days

I also get it’s how you put bread on the table, but the OP needs a nasty lawyer 100% before a AME, I don’t think it would be hard stop this issue before it was a issue here, in fact depending on when he got this angry chick text, if he hasn’t heard from the FAA good chance he’s already good.

How long from a snitch hotline to a letter doc?

"We" need to make this more widely known. Too many don't find out this is an option until after an exam. Why isn't it more widely discussed?

Nauga,
trying to spread the word

Decalogue: 30 days. But it depends of course on WHEN she calls it in.

She gets full whistleblower protections. You'll never prove it's her that called you in. Have you been living under a rock?

I say find the right HIMS AME and start the preparations to withstand the INCOMING.
Don't just sit there and hope. "Your pants are down".
(see my post from the 19th at 7:51 Am).

Well OP, check your calendar and look at your text dates

Might be one of those sleeping dogs deals

In the OP’s case, that bell can’t be unrung.

I think he meant 30 days from the hotline report to the certified letter from the FAA...
