2004 Challenger II Long Wing FOR SALE
Rotax 503 UL DCDI Engine – 60+ Hours Airframe and Engine

challengerInTheHanger-300x225.jpg

How many times have you heard “My loss is your gain?” Here it is again. I had great dreams of becoming a fixed wing pilot. Back in 2011 I spent months browsing Barnstormers ads and, researching airplanes. I communicated with hundreds of sellers and finally made the decision to buy the finest piece of kit built craftsmanship I had the privilege to encounter. The seller posted his build logs. He posted many pictures. I was jazzed. I bought a 28 foot enclosed cargo trailer and drove from Butler Pa to Phoenix Arizona to close the deal.

The day I arrived at the Deer Park Airport in Phoenix, Chad and I took her for a flight. I was thoroughly impressed with her handling, spunk and short field capability. we put her through her paces and then took off her wings and put her in my trailer.

This is where the story becomes a sad tale. She has never been out of the trailer. My plans to bring her home to PA and put on her wings to get my flight training fell through. My plans to build a 60′ x 100′ hanger to house her fell through. Money became an issue.

Now eight years later I realize that I am not going to get my hanger built and,my dream of flying my challenger is merely a vapor that has passed in the air and then vanished. I realize that I am not being a good steward of this fine piece of craftsmanship. I need to find her a pilot who will use her for what she was built for, recreational flight.

When I bought her from Chad she had a current annual and air worthiness certificate. She hasn’t seen a minute outside of the trailer since. What a shame.

The builder Chad Kurtzman, took great pains to adhere to a standard of excellence that I admire. His attention to detail and his careful discipline are well documented in his build log, and evident in this perfectly crafted machine. Chad completed the build in Feb-2008 and put 60+ hours on it before selling it to me in Aug of 2011.

The fat and the skinny. I paid Chad $17,000 and some change. I would Love to get all my money back but, I know how this works. I can sit on it forever waiting for top dollar or, I can offer it for a substantially reduced price and sell before the turn of the next century.

I am asking for $13,500 I doubt if there is much wiggle room. I never got the toy out of the box. I am open to trades if the value is comparable and it is something I have an interest in. I am an avid inflatable wing pilot. I love powered parachuting and powered paragliding (with cart) quads, dune buggies, tools, light artillery and sub-machine guns.

The plane is located at Freedom Field, Deming New Mexico. I am available to show her with appointment.

Q: Have you run the engine regularly. Answer: No. She is stored in a dry trailer in the desert of New Mexico. She has not been out of the trailer since I bought her. I will not be taking her out of the trailer, being that I do not have an appropriate place to fix her wings and fly her. The reason I am selling has mostly to do with the fact that you can not store a fabric covered plane outdoors in the Desert without ruining her.

I know if I put the wings on for one day, that I would end up flying her just one more time, then just one more time, until the sun had beaten her to death. I can not allow that to happen.

Here is the ad I responded to when Chad was selling his creation.

Thank you for giving my Challenger consideration. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I have posted a question on here regarding a folding wing mod. If I could fold em I could keep her.

Thank you,

your friendly neighborhood Treesurfer.
