If the Navy stays with Bell, then the 407 will have to be IFR. If that happens, I’ll need to get current again. Strange how the military requirements spill over into the civ world.

Not off the line it isn’t. With a bunch of STCs it is. There’s maybe a handful in the US that spent the cash to make it IFR. Several groups including EMS have been pushing the FAA to modify part 27 to allow SE helos to be flown IFR. Looks like it’s finally happening.

What’s unclear is if the FAA is going to relax their part 27 IFR equipment requirements or not. For the military, it doesn’t need to meet the FAA’s criteria to be flown IFR, so the Navy really shouldn’t care if it gets approved by the FAA.
