I have an avidyne IFD440 in the panel, and also fly with foreflight. I usually plan the flight in foreflight, then transfer the plan to the IFD, and then fly.

Odd thing is that the panel heading bugs are usually off by a few degrees (5-10) of FF course when we are tracking perfectly. In other words, the plane is tracking the FF course perfectly, but the panel wants us to turn off course a few degrees.

Anybody else note this? Why would it be different?

Some background data:
* FF is using the avidyne as the GPS source
* There is a gmu11 magnetometer in the plane, so the avidyne will know the heading and the GPS course.

Zoom in closer on the panel IFD-440 I bet you’ll find your actually deviated from course. When zoomed out, if just looks like it’s tracking. Zoom way in and check again. The IFD-440 takes preeminence over handheld devices.

The G5 sends heading and heading bug information to the IFD, so it is showing magnetic heading. In user settings you can select Heading Up or Track Up. The iPad only has ground track. If this differs from the IFD, then you will see the airplane icon on the IFD in a crab.
